Closing line value
The only feedback in betting that arrives before the results do.
Results are a terrible way to judge betting decisions. A good bet loses all the time. You would need hundreds of settled bets before your win rate said anything — and by then you have already made or lost the money finding out.
Closing line value is the shortcut. It compares the price you took to the price the market settled on at kickoff. Take a team at -110, watch lineup news land and the line close at -150, and you got roughly 10% the better of it. That is measurable the moment the game starts, win or lose.
The opener is the book's first guess, posted before most of the money has an opinion.
Why the close is the benchmark
The closing line is the most accurate price a market ever produces — every injury, every lineup change and every dollar of informed money has gone into it. Consistently beating it means you are finding the mispricing before the market does. And this is the normal outcome of +EV betting: you are deliberately taking prices before they correct, so the line moving your way afterwards is the system working.
The tiers here run on it
Those use CLV and sample size only, never self-reported profit. Profit can be a hot streak or a story. CLV over a hundred bets is very hard to fake, which is what makes the badge worth something.
Your CLV lands on the bet in My Bets once the game closes, and the average of them decides the tier on your profile.
It needs a recorded price when you took it and a real closing price afterwards. Some markets never produce a usable close, and those are left blank rather than guessed at.
