What the fair price means
Every sportsbook price has the book's own margin built into it, so the two sides of a market add up to more than 100%. Take that margin back out — using the books that price sharpest — and you get the price the market actually thinks is right. That is the fair price above.
When a book is offering more than the fair price, you are being paid as though the outcome is less likely than the market as a whole believes it is. That gap is the only thing worth shopping for, and it is why the same bet is worth taking at one book and not at another.
